What is Dot Paper used for?
Dot grid paper is paper with dots evenly spaced in intervals on a page. These dots can be used as guides for drawing and writing.
Many people like dot grid paper because the dots are not as noticeable as graph paper lines or ruled paper lines. The dots are typically a very faint color so that you don’t really see them except for while you are writing on them.
Dot grid paper became wildly popular after the introduction of the Bullet Journal. People quickly fell in love with how easy it was to create all kinds of journal pages and planner layout designs.
In addition to using it for journals and planners, you can use it for sketching or even use it to play the Dot to Dot game!
You can also use dot grid paper for scrapbooking and other creative projects like junk journals – the subtle dot pattern is great for layering with other papers and using as a backdrop for photos!
Tips for Cutting and Trimming Dot Grid Paper for Bullet Journaling and Planners
If you are making your own bullet journal or using Dot Grid paper for your planner, it’s likely that you will need to cut or trim the pages you print out depending on how you want to use them.
Because journals and planners come in so many sizes (I know, I am quite the collector of them myself!) – it would be impossible for us to make a bazillion different sized pages – not to mention it is a lot easier for almost all of us to stick to traditional paper sizes like letter size and A4 size. Who wants to spend hours changing paper in your printer? Not me!
So, naturally, the easiest thing to do is to trim your dot grid paper down to the size you need.
The easiest and best way to trim your paper is to use a good paper cutter. If you don’t already have an awesome paper trimmer you love, I highly recommend the Westcott brand. I’ve tried hundreds of different paper trimmers and that is the one that I keep going back to time and time again. Bonus? Replacement blades are cheap!
Once your paper is trimmed as needed, you can easily tape or glue it into your existing planner, or even punch holes in it for ring binder style journals and planners.
